New women's study showed that the most important obstacles that hinder women's access to education are early marriages and poor economic conditions, habits and traditions, and stationed females in the disciplines of the social character of education and the preparation of being teachers.

This came during a workshop announce the results of a study at WAC "the reality of the economic empowerment of women in  Gaza Strip," which was organized by the center in the presence of a number of scholars, researchers, academics, activists and academics in the field of women's and human rights.

The research and information coordinator in the center, Mrs. Hidaya Shimon said: "In the beginning of the year has been put competition research in order to give research opportunities to conduct research related to women's issues to enrich the information of the reality of Palestinian women, and to stimulate researchers and researchers to conduct research and detection of the most prominent problems that women face."

In the opening speech, Mrs. Amaal Syam confirmed that since the establishment of Women's Affairs Center was the first areas of interest is the movement of research and information for women, and was the first activity is to train researchers on research related to women's issues work, and since that time has become the Centre a great balance of feminist research value.

And then she adds: "Three years ago the center began offering the idea of research competitions between researchers, and was chosen this year on the idea of economic empowerment of women because way the political and social empowerment and to achieve active participation in the community of Palestinian women in order to achieve a fair and equal opportunities in society, and to ensure real access of women in decision-making positions.

The study investigates the reality of economic empowerment of women in Gaza Strip, and indicators and the prevailing obstacles, and ways of economic enhancement of women in the Palestinian case under the Privacy Aware of the importance of the employment development as a mechanism for the collection of the inalienable rights of the Palestinian people.

During the workshop, the researcher Ghassan Abu Mandir reviewed the results of the study where he explained that the main obstacles that women face in the Joining are: high rates of unemployment in the community, and discrimination in the admission for employment, early marriage, and social constraints conservative attitude of going out to work.

Mr. Abu Mandil said that 43.8% of women who took loans has enabled economically while the rest of them didn’t due to: economic recession, high interest rates, and parental involvement and mismanagement, and of the most important reasons for the lack of women's access to loans are: oppose loans with the Islamic Share’a , and the high proportion of the lead, the lack of sponsors, and bank complicated procedures.

The study revealed that 27.9% of respondents possess a house or part of the home, 23.6% have the jewelry, 17% have the funds, 10.9% have the land, 3.7% have the car, 3.2% have the business venture as that 38.5% of women do not have any of the property , as well as the phenomenon of denial of women's inheritance still exists in the Palestinian community in the Gaza Strip, where they are sometimes the exploitation of women and force them to waive their right to inheritance in different ways, it has been shown 50% of the respondents did not have access to their rights to inheritance.

As it showed that there is a gap between the sexes in the judiciary, where judges ratio did not exceed 12% of the total number of judges in Gaza Strip in 2012, and indicate Guild Palestine lawyer for 2012 data to be lawyers proportion of the profession does not exceed 15% of the total number of lawyers, and does not reflect the representation of women in the Palestinian trade unions participating in the size of the labor market, and the proportion of representation in the Gaza Strip in excess of 4.2%, this meager participation decreases significantly in leadership positions in these unions.

The study came out with a number of recommendations and special tasks of the general policies of the government, and the Palestinian women and women's associations, and education, and women's work .


That when you put the policies and procedures for the empowerment of women to emphasize that it is not just a technical procedure, but is also to change the culture of discrimination, and individual empowerment in line with the collective empowerment, it cannot be separation between the economic empowerment of women and the empowerment of all citizens.
